Poultney's "Slate Quarry Park" Breaks Ground

The Slate Quarry Park Board members hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in the downtown area of Poultney, VT. The new park will provide a venue for exhibitions, music, performances and an atmosphere for gatherings. The park will be artfully constructed from beautiful slate donated from local quarries. It will have a walk path that leads to a center area encircled by a slate formed sitting structure. The event was covered by Burlington's WCAX3 - "Poultney banking on new development to spur tourism growth"

"The Slate Quarry Park will be built in the spring of 2021. The team of Matt Schinski of Schinski Landscaping in Wells and Brian Post of Standing Stone Landscape Architecture of Springfield, Vt, who designed the park and developed the construction plans, will begin construction by May 1st

Brian is a certified dry stone master craftsman with over 20 years of experience building stone walls.

The art of dry-stone wall building will be on display for several weeks in May and June as the construction begins. The walls, the hardscape paths and park floor will be made entirely of slate.

The park will pay tribute to those extraordinary workers who carried their lunch buckets to work every day (and still do). We hope the park will be a source of enjoyment and pride to the residents of and visitors to the Slate Valley.

If you wish to contribute to our park, please direct your payments to the Slate Quarry Park Group at P.O. Box 27, Poultney, Vermont 05764. Thank you so much."
